THE FIELD GUIDE / FIXTURE INSTALLATION

Questions To Ask Before Fixture Installation Day

Clarify product parts, access, water interruptions, and final testing before the installer arrives.

Most fixture delays begin with an unanswered practical question: Is the right part on site? Does the old valve work? Who handles the counter or wall finish? A brief discussion before the visit can make expectations clear.

FIELD NOTE

Confirm The Exact Product

Share the model number or product link for each item, along with photos of the existing fixture and its connections. Ask what is included in the box and what must be supplied separately, such as a drain assembly or mounting accessory. If you are supplying the fixture, keep all parts together and leave packaging available until installation is complete. A missing adapter or proprietary part can change the plan.

FIELD NOTE

Define Who Does What

Ask whether the requested work includes removing the old fixture, replacing shutoff valves, modifying drains, or connecting an existing disposal. For a remodel, establish who handles counter cuts, tile, drywall, and cabinet repairs. The answer can depend on the condition found after removal. A written scope makes it easier to distinguish the planned installation from extra work discovered on site.

FIELD NOTE

Prepare Access And Water Use

Clear ordinary items from the cabinet or work area and make sure the installer can reach the relevant shutoff. Ask whether water will need to be off for the fixture only or for a larger part of the property. Let other occupants know about the expected interruption. If the valve is behind stored goods or in a shared area, arrange access before the appointment.

FIELD NOTE

Agree On The Final Walkthrough

Ask the installer to operate the fixture with you, check accessible connections for leaks, and explain any remaining concerns. Make sure you understand how the product should be cleaned and where replacement parts are identified. If a worn connection or damaged surface changes the job, request an explanation and updated scope before proceeding. That conversation is easier at the work area than after a problem appears later.
