A faucet can look right online and still be awkward at the sink. The easiest installation begins with a few measurements and a look at the plumbing already there. Bring those details to the product selection conversation before ordering.
FIELD NOTE
Check The Mounting Surface
Count the openings in the sink or counter and note their spacing. Photograph the underside if it is safely accessible, including mounting hardware and supply connections. Some faucets need one opening; others use multiple openings or a separate accessory. A deck plate can cover unused holes on certain models, but its size and fit should be verified rather than assumed.
FIELD NOTE
Think About Daily Movement
Consider spout height and reach in relation to the basin, shelves, and window trim. A tall kitchen faucet may interfere with a low cabinet or send water too close to the sink edge. If you want a pull-down sprayer, check the space under the sink for its hose and weight. Handle movement also matters when a backsplash or nearby wall is close.
FIELD NOTE
Review The Hidden Connections
Old shutoff valves, stiff supply lines, or cramped cabinets can affect the job more than the visible faucet. If a valve does not close reliably, tell the installer before work begins. Ask whether the chosen model includes the supplies or accessories needed for your existing setup. Do not force an aging valve just to test it; a plumber can check the condition during the installation review.
FIELD NOTE
Plan The Final Checks
Discuss finish care, aerator access, and any manufacturer instructions that come with the product. After installation, run hot and cold water, move the handle through its range, and check drainage and visible connections with the installer. If efficiency is a priority for a bathroom sink, the EPA WaterSense label is one product-selection cue. Save the model information for future parts or warranty questions.
